A B & The Sea at the Viper Room, Hollywood, CA

18 May

A B & The Sea are my new favorite band. Their show at the Viper Room in Hollywood was fantastic! I went all by myself and had a great time. Everybody in the crowd was kind of shimmying around, moving their head/shoulders type of stuff. Finally during the last song I said “fuck it!” and ran to the front of the stage and started dancing! Then everyone else just let loose and we were all dancing and singing! IT was so awesome, great experience! AND, I got to meet the band after the show. Great, nice guys!

Diplo – “Work is Never Over”

10 May

Diplo’s remix of Kanye West’s “Harder Better Faster Stronger.” Can’t wait to see Diplo and also Major Lazer at HARD Summer…

Rusko – “Woo Boost”

6 May

I was first introduced to Rusko at Coachella this year, by my new friend Bre. This LA hipster video isn’t quite what I was expecting, but it works. Turn the bass up!

Lupe Fiasco and B.o.B. at House of Blues Hollywood

3 May

I went to the Lupe Fiasco and B.o.B. show last night at the House of Blues in Hollywood. My friend Libby hooked it up with tickets, wristbands to get to the balcony that had this view, and wristbands to get up to a 3rd level for drinks after the show.
We missed most of B.o.B.’s set because I was late. But what I did see of it, it was awesome. I think he has great style and I just really like the way his voice sounds. He brought Bruno Mars on stage to perform their hit song “Nothin’ on You.” The crowd went nuts! Check out the video…

Lupe Fiasco was up next, and I have to say, he KILLED it! I first saw Lupe two years ago at Outside Lands in San Francisco. At that time I couldn’t care less about seeing him. But everyone else was going nuts for him. I watched the set but was unimpressed. I ended up downloading his albums about a year later when my Hip Hop kick was really starting to get going. After that I realized what all the fuss was about. His lyrics, his flow, the beats he chooses, all come together really nicely.
As for last night’s show though, he was fucking awesome. Beside the fact that his band was totally on point and the crowd was going nuts, Lupe himself put so much into his performance, and everyone in the crowd fed off of it. Some one who is as talented as Lupe Fiasco and puts that much energy and heart into a show is instantly in my favorites list. There’s something about witnessing true talent live that is like nothing else. Check out another video for Lupe’s Superstar…

Steve Aoki – Pursuit of Happiness Remix

3 May

Steve Aoki is rad DJ. He’s the son of the guy who started Benihana, the restaurant chain. So Steve I suppose was a rich little kid with all the time in the world to play with his turntables. Which I think is an awesome thing! We need people like that to make art for us. Just listen to this track and you’ll be hooked…

Deadmau5 “Strobe”

1 May

I’ve been listening to this song over and over again. The intro sounds so sweet to my ears. Deadmau5 is really a master of his craft, in my opinion. He just understands music and the energy humans share with it. Fantastic!

Matt & Kim are Happy and Fun!

30 Apr

Matt & Kim are a duo from Brooklyn who make simple but aweseomely fun and happy music. With Kim on the Drums and Matt on the keys, their chemistry oozes into the music they make. Their live shows are amazing simply from the amount of energy the two put into them. Its a spectacle that everyone should experience! Here’s their video for “Yeah Yeah”

New Lupe Fiasco

29 Apr

Lupe Fiasco hasn’t released anything for a while. But his kicking and pushing still gets a play out of me every once in a while. This is a track called “I’m Beamin” of his upcoming album. What do you think?

65DAYSOFSTATIC

29 Apr

65DAYSOFSTATIC were introduced to my life last night via a post on facebook. They are a post-rock band, like Explosions in the Sky or This Will Destroy You, though 65DAYS does not like the moniker. In addition to the normal set-up of a post rock band (guitars, bass, drums) 65DAYS introduces some new unique sounds to the genre. Incorporating keyboards and synths, an electronic vibe is achieved, thus creating something totally unique.
Check out the video for “Crash Tactics” off 65DAYSOFSTATIC’s latest album We Were Exploding Anyway.

Deadmau5 at Coachella 2010!

28 Apr

My favorite set during Coachella this year was Deadmau5 for sure. There were definitely some close calls, Thom Yorke!! and Rusko!, but the mau5 was on his game! And his set, designed by the people who Kanye West’ Glow in the Dark tour, was unbelievable. A new mau5 head was unveiled as well, covered in LED’s that completely animated the headgear. For the first time, deadmau5 was talking to us!

Deadmau5 mau5 head coachella 2010

Everything came together to create probably the best live show I’ve ever seen. I ran into a crowd of people who were going of their rockers for the whole show! MDMA had all of us feeling like champions! We all got into a huge ring and started spinning in the middle of the 10,000+ person crowd! Happy, nice, energized people everywhere!

And some amazing person got the entire set on video, with decent audio, and put it on YouTube for everyone to enjoy! Here is part 1:
