A B & The Sea at the Viper Room, Hollywood, CA

18 May

A B & The Sea are my new favorite band. Their show at the Viper Room in Hollywood was fantastic! I went all by myself and had a great time. Everybody in the crowd was kind of shimmying around, moving their head/shoulders type of stuff. Finally during the last song I said “fuck it!” and ran to the front of the stage and started dancing! Then everyone else just let loose and we were all dancing and singing! IT was so awesome, great experience! AND, I got to meet the band after the show. Great, nice guys!

Google Continues Push for Global Information Domination

10 May

via Engadget

“Well, it looks like Google will be kicking off its forthcoming Google Editions
e-book service on a high note — Japan Today is reporting that
the company has managed to score the backing of “almost all” publishers
in the United States. That apparently brings the total number of
publishers and authors on board to over 25,000, and the total number of
books set to be available to somewhere in the neighborhood of two
million — or over four million if you include the public domain books
that Google already makes available for free. As far as we can tell,
however, Google itself still isn’t saying any more on the matter
publicly than it did last
week
, when it confirmed that the service would be launching in late
June or July.”

I should probably write out all of my thoughts about Google and their desire to openly control all global public information. I would like to juxtapose this with my thoughts on Apple and their similar desire for global domintion, which would definitely not be open source. Hmmmmm… my inspiration to do these sorts of things comes in waves, so until the next time my philosophy of technology mindstate reveals itself again, jsut enjoy the music videos I’ve been posting.
Go watch and listen.
Now.
Or else I will come and find you and maybe ask if you’d like to share a cup of tea.
Thank you, come again.

Lupe Fiasco and B.o.B. at House of Blues Hollywood

3 May

I went to the Lupe Fiasco and B.o.B. show last night at the House of Blues in Hollywood. My friend Libby hooked it up with tickets, wristbands to get to the balcony that had this view, and wristbands to get up to a 3rd level for drinks after the show.
We missed most of B.o.B.’s set because I was late. But what I did see of it, it was awesome. I think he has great style and I just really like the way his voice sounds. He brought Bruno Mars on stage to perform their hit song “Nothin’ on You.” The crowd went nuts! Check out the video…

Lupe Fiasco was up next, and I have to say, he KILLED it! I first saw Lupe two years ago at Outside Lands in San Francisco. At that time I couldn’t care less about seeing him. But everyone else was going nuts for him. I watched the set but was unimpressed. I ended up downloading his albums about a year later when my Hip Hop kick was really starting to get going. After that I realized what all the fuss was about. His lyrics, his flow, the beats he chooses, all come together really nicely.
As for last night’s show though, he was fucking awesome. Beside the fact that his band was totally on point and the crowd was going nuts, Lupe himself put so much into his performance, and everyone in the crowd fed off of it. Some one who is as talented as Lupe Fiasco and puts that much energy and heart into a show is instantly in my favorites list. There’s something about witnessing true talent live that is like nothing else. Check out another video for Lupe’s Superstar…

65DAYSOFSTATIC

65DAYSOFSTATIC were introduced to my life last night via a post on facebook. They are a post-rock band, like Explosions in the Sky or This Will Destroy You, though 65DAYS does not like the moniker. In addition to the normal set-up of a post rock band (guitars, bass, drums) 65DAYS introduces some new unique sounds to the genre. Incorporating keyboards and synths, an electronic vibe is achieved, thus creating something totally unique.
Check out the video for “Crash Tactics” off 65DAYSOFSTATIC’s latest album We Were Exploding Anyway.
